Temirtau is going to produce cement from industrial waste.
In Temirtau of the Karaganda region they want to build a cement plant in the dumps of blast-furnace slags, reports Kazinform. “Our company has been successfully processing industrial waste for a year. In the near future, further development of production and modernization of the slag processing area, and in the longer term, the construction of a new plant for the production of cement from blast furnace slag,” said Sergey Kim, Director of AlbaStroy Dor LLP. The project is in line with the country's state course on a "green economy" and the objectives of the Nation Plan "100 concrete steps", the businessman said. “The project is expensive, costing millions of dollars. It will require construction of new premises, new sites. Now there is a discussion with ArcelorMittal Temirtau. If everyone approves, in 2017 we will order the design and estimate documentation. We can build a plant, I think, in two years,” said S. Kim. The company hopes to get financial support from the European Bank for Reconstruction.
“This (production of cement from industrial waste - Ed.) is not know-how, the technology is used in many countries. Slag cement is cheaper and can be used inconstruction of roads and dams,” explained the entrepreneur. The project has economic, social and environmental effects. “First of all, this is a reduction of the harmful effects on the environment due to waste disposal. In addition, the project implementation will provide output with added value and additional jobs,” S. Kim noted. AlbaStroyDor LLP, under a contract with ArcelorMittal Temirtau JSC, was outsourced to the slag processing area of the blast furnace shop. The company employs about 200 people. The company was able to increase many times the processing of industrial waste and to establish sales of products.
