The history of one enterprise. How to use industrial waste from all over the country?
The entire civilized world is concerned with solution of the main problem of our time - the huge accumulations of industrial wastes accumulated over the years of production activity of large industrial enterprises. And Kazakhstan is no exception. We have a considerable number of factories, mines, CHP plants, around which millions of tons of industrial waste have been accumulated being harmful to the environment. Meanwhile, some of these wastes are valuable raw materials that can be reused in a wide variety of industries. Read about it in the material of the correspondent BNews.kz.
Kazakhstan's Minister of Energy Kanat Bozumbayev visited the first “green” village of Arnasai at the retreat of the Public Council of the Ministry of Energy.

On the basis of the Green Technologies Center, the Minister got acquainted with 35 implemented projects of green innovators and Kazakhstani scientists, who demonstrated the best modern methods of promoting and developing a green economy in wind and solar energy, waste management, efficient heat supply, reduction of CO2 emissions and etc.

“The country's economy is tasked with accelerated technological modernization, which is clearly correlated with the tasks of Kazakhstan’s transition to a green economy, where one of the transition principles is to increase resource productivity,” said the Minister at the Public Council.

At the same time, the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan from 2018 plans to introduce an incentive quota system - a new quota allocation principle based on specific greenhouse gas emission factors per unit of production. On the ecological side, this approach will allow stimulating the least efficient enterprises to switch to the best technologies, modernize, and implement projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

One of such projects is an enterprise for processing industrial waste into new popular products.
“Global problem of humanity is a huge accumulation of man-made waste and household garbage, the entire civilized world is concerned with finding a solution - where to put this waste, where you can still use it, how to process it all. The AlbaStroyDor company is engaged in the solution of this sore problem. We process industrial wastes accumulated as a result of the production activities of the metallurgical plant in Temirtau, in particular blast furnace slags obtained during production of iron. But we do not just recycle them, we recycle, that is, we get a completely new type of product, because blast-furnace slag is not just waste, it is a valuable raw material for other products - granulated slag, rubble, crushed stone and sand mixtures used in road construction, production of cement, concrete, mineral wool insulation", - said Natalia Vysotskaya, the manager of LLP "AlbaStroyDor".

The priority use of products obtained from blast-furnace wastes as compared to natural rubble has an economic advantage.

“Cement plants of Kazakhstan cooperate with us, buy our granulated slag. On the highway Astana - Temirtau there are some areas where our crushed stone is used as a layer of pavement. We cooperate with Kazakhstani research institutes because scientists also need to connect and think about what else can be made from these wastes, how and where to use them with benefits for the economy and the environment. For example, studies have shown that when using our material in road construction, the quality of the roadway is significantly improved, and this road lasts longer. This is due to the fact that blast-furnace slags that have undergone heat treatment during the main production in a blast furnace, unlike natural rubble, acquire unique binding properties: when the road layer is pressed, they are cemented to form a durable monolithic road slab. At the same time, the prime cost of road construction is reduced, as slag crushed stone is 35–50% cheaper than natural rubble,” explained Natalia.

Such technologies for recycling of natural resources are particularly relevant in the modern world. The Minister of Energy has repeatedly stressed that we need to develop new technologies and introduce modern innovations:
“We need to understand that the era of oil will end sooner or later, we assume by the balance by 2025-2030. Global trends are such that after 2030, the era of oil, as fuel, will inexorably decline,”- said CEO of the agency.

In just one year of its activity, AlbaStroyDor processed over 2 million tons of blast-furnace waste, thus the company fulfills the most important environmental mission to reduce accumulation of industrial waste in the Karaganda region. In addition, by processing metallurgy waste and supplying it as a raw material - new products: granulated slag, crushed stone and crushed stone-sand mixtures, the company replaces it with identical products obtained from natural stone. For its mining, new stone quarries are being developed every year, while natural landscapes and fertile lands are being destroyed, which, in turn, are mostly not re-cultivated, and therefore dozens and even hundreds of years will not be restored.

“We are trying to follow the policy of the Head of State in order to enter the top 30 of the most developed countries. And the developed countries are primarily concerned with the environment, they think what will happen tomorrow with our land, what will the next generations get? We should not wait when we suffocate from all industrial waste and drown in garbage, we should not wait for an environmental disaster to do something, and today we should think about what will happen to us tomorrow,” Natalya Vysotskaya is convinced.

It should be noted that in foreign countries with a developed metallurgical industry, all blast-furnace slags are processed. Developed world countries take the topic of recycling secondary resources very seriously, a special attitude is shown by the European member states of the European Union. The most revealing attitude to this problem is in Germany, where already in 1949 a special scientific and technical society REPZ was organized for a comprehensive study of the properties of metallurgical slags with a view to their subsequent use in industry and agriculture in Germany. Abroad, slags are used in three main areas: in agriculture - for liming soil, in road construction – for road construction, and in the production of cement and concrete. The main direction of slag processing in the United States, England, France, Hungary is the production of rubble from air-cooled slag in trenches directly from blast furnaces or beyond.

The AlbaStroyDor company fulfills an important environmental mission - it reduces accumulations and recycles industrial waste. This is a developing company, in one and a half years its staff has increased more than 2 times and today has more than 200 people. The wage fund is also increased almost 2, 5 times from 13 million tenge to 32 million tenge.
